To show the effect of anti-aliasing, here’s a magnified portion of an
image
(so that you can see the individual pixels).
Left: A small selection area of an image, shown by the marching ants.
Centre: The selection cut from the image, with Anti-aliased turned on,
giving a soft edge.
Right: The same selection, this time with Anti-aliased turned off,
creating a sharp edge
(notice the stepped effect visible at this magnification,where the edge
follows the pixels’ edges).
